eShare all set to talk compliance at AFME European Conference

eShare will be exhibiting at AFME’s inaugural European Compliance and Legal Conference, which is set to take place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on 19 and 20 September. It’s a hugely prestigious event that will bring together a senior audience to meet leading industry experts to discuss the key issues shaping the legal and compliance functions in the European financial sector.

AFME is the voice of Europe’s wholesale financial markets, representing many leading global and European banks and other significant capital market players. It is focused on a number of market and business issues, and offers deep policy and technical expertise and constructive influence with European and global policymakers, so is an important audience and market for eShare.

Brexit and finance

European finance is a sector facing enormous uncertainty at present, with the shadow of Brexit looming large over FS firms across the continent, and a major part of the event will focus on the Brexit implications for European wholesale banking legal and compliance functions.

Earlier in 2017 eShare conducted research with Irish fund managers that highlighted the uncertainty and potential impact of Brexit on the finance sector. Many of those we surveyed are already making plans to manage the fall-out from a hard Brexit, with 83% of respondents saying there have been active discussions in their organisation about how to manage this.

BoardPacks and compliance

With delegates at the AFME event eager to hear from peers and industry experts how best to navigate the new market landscape, it’s a perfect opportunity for eShare to demonstrate the effectiveness of our online board portal BoardPacks as a tool when addressing compliance and governance.

If any financial organisation is planning a post-Brexit relocation, then it is obviously a highly significant decision, not easily arrived at. Board members will need all the relevant information to hand when making such a decision, and BoardPacks is perhaps the ideal solution to do this.

Its knowledge centre provides users with immediate access to meeting agendas, minutes and background information, both current and historic, and also gives board members also offering complete transparency into decision making. Board level transparency is always important, and in a turbulent economic and politic climate, more so than ever.

Beyond Brexit

But the event is not only focused on Brexit, and delegates will hear from keynote speakers including: Tilman Lüder, Head of the Securities Markets Unit, European Commission; Catherine McGuinness, Policy Chairman, City of London Corporation; and Verena Ross, Executive Director of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Topics will include the implications of the EU GDPR for the financial services industry, how developments in RegTech and FinTech will impact compliance and litigation, and on the impact on corporate culture from implementing change in a business and reviewing compliance officers’ liabilities.

Although this is the first time this event has been staged, the stellar line-up of speakers and range of topics on the agenda mean it is already shaping up to be a key date in the compliance events calendar. We believe that BoardPacks can play a major role in an organisation’s compliance, so if you are attending AFME on 19 or 20 September then please come and say hello – we will be at stand one.

Otherwise, do drop us a line here if you can’t make it but would still like to learn more about BoardPacks.
